E-Safety
We value the importance of e-safety at Hale Primary School. We are currently working towards the 360 degrees Self Review Accreditation Award. This involves a review that will help us develop practice.
At School
Children at Hale use the internet on a regular basis as part of their learning. Children all need to understand the internet and how they can use it positively, safely and to their benefit. In school we have regular ‘e-safety’ activities to remind children of the importance of keeping themselves safe online. Our internet rules are displayed around the school. See the links to view.
At Home
As a school we recommend that Key Stage 1 and 2 children should always have a responsible adult with them when online. When letting children use websites, it is always worth checking the terms and conditions of the website – many websites have minimum ages – for example, Facebook has a policy which states you must be 13 or over to have an account.
As your child’s parent or carer you are in the ideal position to help them learn how to avoid potential problems and get the most out of the internet. It is also really important to chat with your children on an on-going basis about staying safe online. Here are some starting points.
- Ask your children to tell you about the sites they like to visit and what they enjoy doing online.
- Ask them about how they stay safe online. What tips do they have for you, and where did they learn them?
- What is OK and not OK to share?
- Ask them if they know where to go for help, where to find the safety advice, privacy settings and how to report or block on the services they use.
- Encourage them to help someone!
- Perhaps they can show you how to do something better online or they might have a friend who would benefit from their help and support.
- Think about how you each use the internet. What more could you do to use the internet together? Are there activities that you could enjoy as a family?
