Pupil Premium
Please read the information below which gives details of our Pupil Premium Grant and how we allocate the funding.
Background
The Pupil Premium Grant is a sum of money given to schools each year by the Government to improve the attainment of disadvantaged children. Research shows that children from low income families perform less well at school than their peers, facing challenges such as poor language and communication skills, less family support, lack of confidence and issues with attendance and punctuality.
Pupil Premium is intended to directly support the educational achievement of these children, helping to narrow the gap between them and their classmates. The following groups of children are eligible for the grant:
Children from families in receipt of Free School Meals (FSM)
Children from Service Families
Children adopted from Local Authority Care
Children in Local Authority Care (CLA)
Schools are free to decide how to use their Pupil Premium allocation as it is recognised that they are best placed to assess what additional provision should be made for individual pupils, (see DFE: Pupil Premium Funding).
When deciding the most effective strategies to use, we consider alongside own professional knowledge and understanding of the children, advice from outside agencies together with findings and recommendations from recent research, including those from the Education Endowment Foundation.
We carefully track each child’s progress and, through termly ‘Pupil Progress Meetings’, monitor the impact and effectiveness of the strategies employed and thus the expenditure of the funding we receive.
